Naturium Acne Update 2026: Evidence and Open Questions

Naturium's acne update for 2026 centers on an e.l.f.-owned line still active with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur options. No Naturium benzoyl-peroxide product appeared in the FDA retail recalls described in March 2025. Naturium here means the skin-care brand acquired by e.l.f.

Beauty. According to the NDC listing, Naturium Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser 5% remains listed as active through Dec. 31, 2026. The sections below explain ownership, FDA findings, and practical choices.

Who owns Naturium now

According to e.l.f. Beauty, the company signed an agreement on Aug. 29, 2023 to acquire Naturium for $355 million in cash and stock to double skin-care share to about 18% of retail sales, described in the acquisition announcement. The deal positioned Naturium inside a larger beauty portfolio.

According to e.l.f. Beauty reporting via Nasdaq, the acquisition closed on Oct. 4, 2023 for $333.0 million in cash and stock. Current DailyMed labels therefore list e.l.f. Cosmetics as the labeler for Naturium acne products.

What did FDA testing find

According to the FDA, the agency tested 95 benzoyl-peroxide acne products and found more than 90% had undetectable or extremely low benzene, detailed in the FDA statement on benzene testing. The agency recommended only a limited number be recalled at retail level.

According to the same FDA statement, the retail-level recalls named specific La Roche-Posay, Proactiv, Walgreens, SLMD and Zapzyt lots. The list did not include any Naturium benzoyl-peroxide product.

Where does Naturium's benzoyl peroxide cleanser stand

According to NDC List and DailyMed, Naturium Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser 5%, NDC 76354-123-01 by e.l.f. Cosmetics, remains listed as active through Dec. 31, 2026, shown in the NDC listing for the cleanser.

Its label became effective Nov. 7, 2025. The listed use is fighting and preventing acne breakouts. For shoppers, that means the cleanser remains a current labeled benzoyl-peroxide option rather than a recalled lot.

What other Naturium acne products are labeled

According to e.l.f. Cosmetics DailyMed labels, the 2025-labeled acne line also includes Salicylic Acid Serum 2%, Salicylic Acid Body 2%, Sulfur Spot Treatment 8% and Encapsulated Salicylic Acid Moisturizer 0.75%. All carry an acne-blemish indication.

The labels became effective Nov. 14, 2025. That gives shoppers non-benzoyl-peroxide choices in the same brand line, including leave-on, body, and spot formats.

How should shoppers handle benzoyl peroxide

Independent Valisure testing in March 2024 petitioned FDA after finding benzoyl peroxide can degrade into benzene over 800 times the 2-ppm conditional limit, especially at high heat. According to FDA, its action covered retailers removing specified lots, not consumers discarding products at home. That distinction leaves simple steps for concerned shoppers:.

  • Check any benzoyl-peroxide product lot number against the FDA recall list.
  • Store benzoyl-peroxide products in a cool place and avoid hot cars or steamy cabinets.
  • Consider salicylic-acid or sulfur options if heat exposure or benzene worries persist.
