Let's Talk Acne Laser Treatment

Linda asks…

What is the best laser treatment for acne?

I heard that there are several acne laser treatments. which one kills the bacteria that causes the acne & improve the look of old ones?

Tom William answers:

Acne is not caused by bacteria.

Most people want to treat acne scars rather than acne.It is like treating measles scars rather than measles.Acne is a skin condition caused by the internal imbalance. All medicines and creams which help to remove acne scars contain benzoyl peroxide.

You can regain your internal balance and cure your acne completely and permanently by natural techniques.I have done a small research on various products which claim to cure acne.Acne No More is a program with user rating 4.5/5.You can try it here

Good Luck

Mary asks…

Is it good idea for 14~17 old teenagers to get acne laser treatment?

is it a good idea? and if it is, how much does this laser treatment cost?

Tom William answers:

No.You should never go for laser treatment at this phase of age , in this phase you are still growing or I would say never go for laser treatment at any age. Instead, you better do some home remedies or visit a dermatologist or any health professional. He will prescribe you some oral or topical treatment. Plus, if you do not want to visit a doctor for acne or any other reason, you can always try using some home remedies. Home remedies are always helpful and the best part is it does not have any side effects as they are natural. Here I am telling you a home remedy which will not only clear all bumps pimples and scars but also give a glow to your skin and make it look healthier and fresh. Many people are using this and having great results.
Procedure: Take some sandal wood powder with turmeric powder and put few drops of milk or rose water (Just to make it a paste).Mix them all together well and apply it on your whole face and leave for 20-30 minutes then wash your face with water. And if you have rose water then spray on your face.

It would make wonders for you. Do it on daily basis and you will observe the results instantly.

How much does clearing acne with laser treatment cost, and is it safe/better?

How much does clearing acne with laser treatment cost?
Is it safe &/or better than doing something else… if so.. please help.
what other option do i have thats better off than laser treatment?

Tom William answers:

You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here – health-quotes.isgreat.org

Steven asks…

Are there any dangers or side effects to acne laser treatment?

Will it get rid of all acne and give you a completely clean face or only somewhat clean?

Tom William answers:

Tony,

I had a laser treatment for my acne last year. Apparently, the laser helps dry out the sebaceous glands. I was sufferring from sever acne and the laser helped remove my pimples considerably (about 80%) BUT only for a temporary period. In 6-8 months my acne recurred. My doctor said that I might have been a freak case but I would advise you to proceed cautiously.
As regards side effects, there were none in my case.

Wish you all the best for your acne.

Jenny asks…

What are the side effects for getting a laser treatment for acne?

Also, what are the PROS & CONS for getting a laser treatment for acne?
Also, is it okay for a 16 year old girl to go through this procedure?

Tom William answers:

Con. It hurts reallly bad.
Pro. It reduces scars a lot. Least the ones ive seen done.

Mandy asks…

Is acne laser treatment painful?

I was told by my doctor this was the best way to make my acne go away. I would like to know if it is painful in anyway and will I have to do any other treatment after this laser treatment?

Tom William answers:

There is this new popular cream that people have been talking about.

It prevents future and existing acne, diminishes scars, and lightens skin and blemishes. Fast results too! (It’s been

claimed that major results can be seen within a week and no later than two weeks)

Before and After photos are available at the given ebay site.

This person is providing 1-3 week trial samples (Only for ONE DOLLAR.. Definitely a deal) on ebay at:

Search up “Cee En’s Acne Solution” on ebay.

First 100 customers can get the item for $1 for one week trial and up to 3 weeks. Or you can purchase 1 month supply

for $40, 3 month for $100, or 6 month supply for $150

It’s expensive, but the product DOES work.

My sister and cousin who both have major acne have tried the product and they both give it thumbs up. I have also

heard many great feedbacks about this cream.

I don’t have a problem with acne, but it seems to have great results on my sister who has moderate to severe acne. Her

acne swelling went away overnight.

Check the seller’s feedbacks on the cream

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=carolynes_acnesolution

I hope this helps. =)

Helen asks…

Has anyone had acne laser treatment and found it had adverse effects?

i’d love to have clear perfect skin and have been reading stories about acne laser treatment and how it can achieve this, but has anyone had it and found there acne got worse it didn’t improve at all?

thanks : )

Tom William answers:

I personally have never had laser treatment, but have read some horror stories on a different message board about patients who are extremely disappointed with the laser results and how they wish that they never done it and instead tried something a bit less invasive first such as the tca (medium) chemical peel. One post mentioned how the person’s dermatologist mentioned that he or she doesn’t even use laser anymore as it can sometimes be too strong or whatnot. I’ll leave the website where laypeople can read and post messages (free to register). There is a forum for all kinds of cosmetic and even reconstructive procedures.

Betty asks…

Acne laser treatment results?

I just had acne laser treatment done about an hour ago but I don’t see much results, It looks the same to me, does it take a few hours before I will see results or was I suppose to see results as soon as the lady was done doing the treatment.

Tom William answers:

No dont go for it

Laura asks…

Considering an Acne Laser Treatment?

I’m sorry but I just can’t handle it. I suffer every single day from acne and I’m extremely paranoid of people looking at me now. I’m partially dying inside.

I’m considering doing an acne laser treatment. Is this a good choice? I’m on the verge of killing myself if I don’t see any immediate results. I’ve tried everything from mask to million of serums. I just don’t see any improvement.

What are some symptoms or side effects of this treatment that I should be aware of?

Tom William answers:

Acne is a very emotionally challenging condition to have, and I don’t think enough people realize this. I myself suffered through it for years with no relief.

Getting laser treatment is probably one of my biggest regrets. After trying at least twenty different topical treatments and several acne antibiotics, I was ready to try anything. First of all, it was extremely painful. Secondly (and more importantly), it left me with deep acne scars that still have not healed (I had the treatment done about four years ago). I absolutely do not recommend laser treatment.

With that said, I encourage you to talk to a dermatologist about trying isotretinoin (aka Accutane). After my horrific laser treatment, I stopped seeing my dermatologist altogether and let cystic acne attack my face, back and chest. After one particularly nasty cyst, I decided to see a new derm and she immediately put me on Claravis (another form of Accutane). I’m happy to say that I’ve been acne free for well over a year now and I’ve never felt better about myself. Plus, your insurance is more likely to cover Accutane than a laser treatment (which can cost hundreds of dollars out of pocket).

Believe me, I know how horrible acne is. It makes you want to hide your face from the world, which no one should ever have to feel. I can’t recommend heading to a dermatologist to talk about isotretinoin enough.

Take care, I hope things get better for you.

Let's Talk Treating Acne On Back

George asks…

Which products would you recommend to treat back and chest acne?

I have back, shoulders, and chest acne. I want a product that would actually work on me and still cheap at the same time. Thanks

Tom William answers:

Use Neutrogena Body was is really good for acne on the body .

Also St ives Green tea body wash is really good smell herbal too.

For serious body acne use OXY body wash is like miracle wand but you need to
have alot alot acne because is strong.

Mark asks…

how to treat back acne?

i’m a girl and i’m really parranoid about the spots on my back. does anyone know what i could do to get rid of them?

please help, i hte showing my body, or wearing strapless tops because of them :(

Tom William answers:

Girl you are not alone.

Ive been dealing with that problem for about a year now.

Try Neutrogena Body Wash
its in an orange body

get a back scrubber and put some of that on it
and scrub all the dead skin cells away in the shower.

If that doesnt work, then its stubborn like mine
i recently discovered that aloe(the gel stuff you put on your sun burns)
works great :)
my backne is almost completely gone.

If that doesnt work ask your dermotologist,.

Good luck girl:)

Richard asks…

How to treat back acne on a new tattoo?

About a week an half ago, i got a rather large back piece tattooed on my back. I have switched from A&D lotion to an unscented hydrating lotion. As a result of constant moisturizng, my back has started to break out- including the area where my tattoo now resides.

It’s not alot, but it is still fairly annoying. How do I treat the acne without harming the tatt? The sooner the acne is treated, the less anxiety that i have to feel knowing that these bumps could potentially ruining my ink. Feedback would be awesome!

Tom William answers:

Leave them alone and let them drain naturally. That will cause the least damage to your skin. If the tattoo is over a week old it should be mostly healed and therefore be fine. I would also switch lotion as you might be having a slight allergic reaction

Paul asks…

Help! Back ACNE!!!!!?

I heard that using a medicated cream or gel like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can treat it.

I’ve searched on the feedbacks to use Neutrogena’s “On-the-Spot acne treatment” but i heard it wasn’t that good to treat it.

Do you have any good recommendations on products that can treat back acnes?

Please help!
Thanks!

Tom William answers:

More and more people now days are pointing to different directions on treating acne, because many believe that the harsh chemical products will only make the condition worse. Even if they get you clear which is not the case with many people, once you stop using the product it will come back!
I say just get a back scrubber, with some gentle creamy body wash that does not dry out the skin and scrub your back once a day when you shower and no more! Over washing, over scrubbing irritates the skin more. It will take a month or two, but your skin will naturally overcome the acne, and you won’t have to worry about washing it anymore! Or can’t you just go a “the pill” since your girl? Every girl I knew that started to get ance took the pill, and have been clear ever since!

Mary asks…

I get really bad back acne?

How do you treat your back acne?
I’ve tried acne washes etc on my back, but they haven’t really worked.
Any suggestions?

Tom William answers:

You need to go to a dermatologist. They will probably put you on an oral antibiotic to treat it and they can recommend or prescribe things that can clear you up. Both of my kids go to a dermatologist.
They usually recomend a soapless cleanser. My kids use Clean and Clear foaming facial cleanser on their faces. Their backs are not a problem. My son uses a topical antibiotic and Benzol peroxide 10%. This has helped him. We had really good luck with Proactive at first but then it stopped working. Good luck

Helen asks…

Why is acne on your back harder to treat than acne on your face?

I’ve been to several dermatologists and they’ve given me creams and antibiotics. This has helped the breakouts on my face but not on my back. What’s up with that?

Tom William answers:

Also the skin on your back is thicker and the dead skin cells are not scrubbed off as often as your face. This also makes it more prone to scaring.

Jenny asks…

Have you had a back facialto treat acne on the back?

Tom William answers:

For your curls www.curlz.biz, www.blened-beauty.com, www.naturallycurly.com

John asks…

how can you treat acne on the back of your arms, and is it even acne?

Tom William answers:

Use hydraulic acid, that should help.

Lisa asks…

Jenny asks…

Acne Natural Cures That Will Clear Acne?

I will like to know acne natural cures that will remove my acne fast.

Tom William answers:

Steaming and Acne
Facial Steaming is by far one of the most overlooked ways to get rid of acne. In fact, it is so powerful that acne sufferers only need to do it a few times a month in order to fully benefit from its results. Let’s take the magical acne formula touted by scientists and estheticians everywhere.

Acne is the result of: Bacteria + Oil + Clogged pores

Without the three, acne simply can not form. What we are doing when we are steaming is removing one of the key ingredients that produce acne.
So, it is a wonder that steaming, which virtually eliminates clogged pores is so effective?
When you eliminate clogged pores and congestion, acne can simply not form. Not to mention, steaming is free, can be done with minimal tools, costs nearly nothing and can be done as often as necessary.
The basic idea behind steaming is that you boil water and simply let the steam do the rest for 10-15 minutes.

Herbs enhance the effectiveness of the steam and promote healthier skin. Herbs have surprising effects on the skin. Many are emollient, softening and lubricating; others hydrate and moisturize and most are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Try a “Green Steam”, your skin will thank you for it.

If you want to get Gorgeous Skin as well as Longer, Fuller,Thicker & Sexier Eyelashes that enhance your overall Beauty. If you are sick and tired of spending a fortune on Expensive Acne Products and Treatments that are just not working for you or that are only breaking your bank. Robert asks…

What are some good natural cures for acne?

Or even over the counter medicines. (Although I’ve been using
over the counter medicines and they don’t seem to be working).
Mostly across the forhead and on chin. Please only serious
recommendations. Thank you.

Tom William answers:

Fluoride toothpaste used to work for me. Just put a little dab on each blemish and see what happens overnight.

Be sure to use toothpaste though, the gel doesnt have the same effect.

John asks…

Acne cures.?

Any natural cures for acne? Please no rude / mean comments.

Tom William answers:

There are these natural pills. They are called Perfect Skin by Genuine Health. They begin to work within 4-6 weeks. I’ve been taking them for 5 weeks and I can see big improvements! They are 100% natural.

Ken asks…

Natural/cheap acne cures?

My husband and I recently lost perscription coverage, and had been using perscription acne meds (topical). So now we need natural (and cheap please) cures or prevention ideas. We are using little clensing pads and cream Noxema, but still worry about break outs, not to mention that using both noxema and pads drys out our non-oily spots. Any ideas or suggestions?

Tom William answers:

Natual skin care is also the best way to stay healthy.

I sometimes use a tube of “Virasolve” on my very occasional pimples, just to kill bacteria and dry it out. It is a cold sore lotion, but works really well to quickly nip a pimple in the bud.

I also use a great big tube of Aloe Vera gel from Herbalife, that is REALLY CHEAP and is just incredible. This has been the only skincare product I have bought for about 10 years now apart from maybe once a year getting a jar of cheap moisturiser for winter months… The Aloe gel gets smoothed on my face after I shower. It is antibacterial and anticeptic so that kills most of the problems that might trigger any acne. It also helps soothe any sensitive skin or dry skin issues that come and go. It is non-oily so I never “feel” it on my skin… Just brilliant – and very, very, cheap for a top quality product.

THEN I have my source for “pamper” skin treatments that I love to use.

I steam my face whenever I feel a bit peaked or sniffly…. Just chuck a chamolile teabag in the hot water, some honey, some cinamon stick & cloves. Maybe add some mint.

Here are some tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:

1. Stay hydrated, and drink plenty of water! That doesn’t mean soda, caffeine or any other type of liquid even if it is low cal. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!

2. Protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. We all love the sun. We love being in it and we love having a beautiful tan. The truth is you can poison yourself with too much sunshine.

UV rays cause skin cancer, and if that isn’t bad enough, it causes your skin to age faster than it should, contributing to unsightly wrinkles. If you must play in the sun, make certain you are using an adequate sun screen. Don’t leave home without it!

3. Apply your sun screen even if you only make a quick trip to the grocery store. Yes, you can get harmful UV rays even while driving your car!

4. When you purchase sun screen, make certain you are buying the right tool for the job. There are different types of UV rays and they don’t all affect our skin in the same ways. The time of year also has a bearing on how much damage the sun can do to your skin.

Altitude is another important factor. UV rays are more intense at high altitudes. Sunshine alone is not the culprit. You can do just as much damage to your skin (or in some cases even more) on a cloudy day!

5. Skin care tip:Don’t forget sun screen for your lips. They want to be healthy too!

6. Apply your sunscreen BEFORE going outdoors and allow plenty of time for it to adequately absorb into your skin cells rather than just sitting on top of the skin.

7. Read the labels on Natural beauty skin care products. The truth is that some ingredients may do more harm than good. The more ingredients are listed, the more potential harm they can do to your skin.

Here is a list of some of the common ingredients found in skin care products, and you need to be aware that some may have the potential to irritate your skin:

• Ammonia
• Balsam
• Bergamot
• Citrus juices and oils
• Coriander
• Eugenol
• Fir needle
• Horsetail
• Lemongrass
• Marjoram
• Mint
• Papaya
• Sandalwood oil
• TEA-lauryl sulfate
• Arnica
• Bentonite
• Camphor
• Clove
• Cornstarch
• Fennel
• Geranium
• Lavender
• Lime
• Melissa (lemon balm)
• Oak bark
• Peppermint
• Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfate
• Thyme
• Balm mint
• Benzalkonium chloride
• Cinnamon
• Clover blossom
• Eucalyptus
• Fennel oil
• Grapefruit
• Lemon
• Linalool
• Menthol
• Orange
• Phenol
• Sodium lauryl sulfate
• Wintergreen
• Witch hazel
• Ylang-ylang

8. There are a few ingredients that are totally banned by the Food and Drug Administration and should be avoided:

• Bithionol
• Mercury compounds
• Vinyl chloride
• Halogenated salicylanilides
• Zirconium complexes in aerosol cosmetics
• Chloroform
• Methylene chloride
• Chlorofluorocarbon propellants
• Hexachlorophene
• Methyl methacrylate monomer in nail products

9. Keep your skin clean. Use a soft warm cloth. Skin does not require scrubbing. You will do more harm than good if you do.

10. Exfoliate dead skin cells every night.

11. Create your own Natural beauty facial masks. Here are a couple of excellent masks that you can create with ingredients right from your kitchen:

• Oatmeal mask: Mix oatmeal with skim milk and apply.

• Eggs: A raw egg yolk makes an excellent face mask.

• Honey: Try adding a little honey to the egg yolk for a change of pace.

• Mayonnaise: Is another terrific face mask and will leave your skin feeling very soft.

12. Try a milk of magnesia facial for a Natural skin treatment. Apply directly from the bottle and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes then rinse with warm water.

13. Moisturize dry skin with essential oils. A combination of juniper, cypress, mandarin and grapefruit will work as an astringent that will leave your skin feeling tighter.

If your skin is extra dry, premix the essential oils with a teaspoon of carrier oil (mineral oil) and ad ¼ cup of milk or a tablespoon of honey to give you added moisturizing.

14. If you have particularly sensitive skin, try a Pepto Bismol facial. Apply with a soft cotton ball directly from the bottle; just as it soothes the stomach, it will sooth your skin. Cover your face and neck and allow it to dry before rinsing.

15. Use an antioxidant cream. You are bombarded every day with environmental toxins that attack the surface of your skin. In fact most damage to the skin can be attributed to free radicals.

When you expose yourself to toxins like air pollution, free radical production increases. Apply an antioxidant cream to your skin before applying your sun screen.

16. If you have oily skin, only apply a toner in the T zone, your forehead and nose.

17. The best cure for wrinkles is to never have them in the first place! If you are like most of us, you didn’t listen to your Mom when she tried to tell you to stay in the shade, stand up straight and stop squinting!

18. Unlike Cleopatra, we live in the nuclear age and wrinkles can become a thing of the past.

Consider “laser skin resurfacing.” It is supposed to work for those fine lines and wrinkles of any depth. This technique reminds you of the “light swords” in the Star Wars movies.

It literally zaps and vaporizes away the lines and wrinkles. The procedure is conducted in the doctor’s office and it’s said that you heal within a week or so.

Expensive? Yes. Fast? Yes, much faster than deep chemical peels or dermabrasion.

19. If your budget won’t handle laser skin resurfacing you might try a skin peel. There are several types.

There’s dermabrasion as we mentioned. This procedure literally sands the top few layers of your skin off, just like refinishing furniture!

It’s done with a wire brush that rotates and is said to remove even deep wrinkles.

20. Maybe you would prefer something a bit less abrasive, pardon the pun. If so, you might consider a deep peel. This process is accomplished using an acid and is for moderately deep wrinkles.

There are some risks associated with the acid procedure. It isn’t as stable as the laser resurfacing because there is less control of the acid solution.

21. Have a glycolic or beta peel. This process won’t do much for your wrinkles, but if you are only looking to improve general skin tone, this is the one for you.

22. Try Retin A. If you want to see a smoothing of fine wrinkles and an overall healthy glow that will remove mottling and give your skin a youthful blush, then this is the route to go.

23. You can avoid all the nastiness of the previous treatments by choosing collagen injections.

The biggest challenge with this choice is it is temporary, lasting just a few months, so you have to repeat the procedure frequently.

24. Stop shaving your legs and use hot wax. Much gentler on your skin.

25. Mix up a tablespoon of brandy along with a smashed up peach and apply to your face for twenty minutes then rinse. Makes for a great summer facial.

and remember to pamper your skin when you have a bath or steam facial… Use the ingredients in your kitchen, at no extra expense, and super natural for you too

http://www.best-natural-cures-health-guide.com/natural-cures-salt-bath.html

Rosemary and Thyme and Sage are also great antiseptic and astringent herbs, so you can use any of those with say, Lavendar, in a steam facial, then when the water cools, use it as a splash on toner to cleanse your skin at night.

Hope all this is of some help… Like I said, I havent needed to buy skincare products for 10 years now, and my skin is fantastic for a 49 year old, no acne, very few and slight creases, with very little maintenance needed.

Lizzie asks…

Kn0w any natural acne cures?

that will almost for sure work. thanks!

Tom William answers:

My son has been using pine tar soap for a lil over a month now. It has really helped clear it up. He had it really bad. Huge sores on his face, back and some on his arms and chest. You can get it thru your pharmacy. It costs about $4 a bar and a bar can last 3-4 wks.

Mary asks…

Im so sick of searching for ways to heal and permantly get rid of acne. Dose anyone know of any natural cures?

Every time I think I found something promising, there always is a catch and overwelming prices. I need a solution to end this permantly with no cost. I really want to feel good about my skin. Can anyone help?

Tom William answers:

Beware of using any products for acne unless they have been prescribed or recommended by your doctor. People make all kinds of suggestions about the best thing to do to cure acne. Some cures I’ve heard include putting oatmeal, honey, lemon juice, tea tree oil, cucumber, vinegar, milk of magnesia or toothpaste on your face. Practically every cosmetics company and company that makes personal care products makes something that is a “sure cure” for acne. If we think about this, and use some common sense, we have to come to the conclusion that there is no quick or easy cure for acne, because if there was it would be well known and doctors would be telling everyone about it.

Numerous companies make a lot of money persuading people to buy products that at worst will make the acne worse, and at best may help some people a little. Often fewer products are better. People often make their acne much worse by using too many products. There really is no quick fix for acne. Don’t spend a lot of money on products just because their ads say that they will cure acne. Your doctor is the best person to ask for help, and he or she may recommend some prescription medication or non-prescription treatment that may be suitable for you..

There are some very simple and basic things you can do that cost nothing. Keep your face or any other area affected by acne very clean. Any mild antibacterial soap will help with that. Rinse the area well to remove all soap residue. Drink plenty of water – it really does help to clear up acne. Eat a nutritious diet and get enough sleep. A healthy life style will make a difference. Try to reduce the stress in your life – stress contributes to acne, so also probably the more you worry about the acne and focus on it, the worse it will be.

Probably the most useful and effective things you can do are to apply hot compresses to pustules and cysts and never to pick or squeeze pimples. Playing with or popping pimples, no matter how careful and clean you are, nearly always makes bumps stay redder and bumpier longer.

Mark asks…

Any natural cures that will cure my acne?

I am not looking for medications or accutane and pro activ. I am talking about herbs or creams you can find at a foreign store. Something that comes from mother nature. No drugs at all. I have delt with acne since I was 12 and I am 20 and it has ruin my image as a person. I have real bad self esteem problems right now. Thanks for the responses, josh

Tom William answers:

First off, I’d like to say I completely undertstand how you feel because I have suffered with acne since puberty until now (I’m 28 now). I know how hard it is to deal with. I commend you for wanting to use all-natural treatments as opposed to the treatments filled with harsh, synthetic chemicals. Now-a-days, most people have been brainwashed into thinking the only way to cure acne (or keep it under control) is to scrub their face day and night with harsh, irritating and potentially dangerous products. What a lot of people don’t understand is that the cause of acne has nothing to do with poor hygeine and over-cleansing the face with harsh products can actually irritate the skin and make the acne worse.

100% pure Tea Tree essential oil is known for helping with acne.
Tea tree oil is an oil extracted from the leaves of the Australian Melaleuca Alternafolia tree. It has powerful anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral qualities.

In fact it has been proven effective killing acne bacteria when topically applied. And because of that it is often used as a replacement to benzoyl peroxide in many of the “natural” acne treatments.

Tea Tree oil is one of the very few essential oils that can be applied “as is” to the skin – it doesn’t need to be diluted. Just put some Tea Tree oil on a cotton ball and gently apply to the affected areas of the skin.

You can find pure Tea Tree oil at just about any store that sells natural products. You’ll want to check the ingredient label though to make sure it is in fact 100% pure Tea Tree oil (with no additives or “fillers” of any kind). Also, it is always best to get organic essential oils if you can find and/or afford them. One very trusted company that sells organic pure essential oils is Simplers Botanical Company. I’ve listed their website below.

There are a few companies that make and sell 100% natural (chemical-free) products that you may want to check out. Aubrey Organics has a skincare line for different skin types, including combination skin and oily skin. I, personally, use Aubrey Organics and am happy with the results of their products. You can find Aubrey Organics at just about any natural store or you can order online. Another company that uses all-natural ingredients in their products is Suki. Suki has a Lemongrass facial cleanser and White Willow facial toner that is oily skin/acne specific and I’ve read several positive reviews on these products. I actually am going to try Suki for myself soon. Another company with all-natural products is Terressentials. I’ve listed all the websites below for you.

Good luck! Keep in mind that there is no magical “cure” for acne but there are several things you can do to keep it under control. You’re doing the right thing by using all-natural products. :-)

Michael asks…

Natural remedies for fading acne dark spots/scarrs?

I believe in natural remedies for curing acne, now I have these dark marks and blemishes from the spots, are there any natural cures for fading them, or getting rid of them all together? I’ve heard that ‘bio-oil’ is effective, also vitamin e.

Tom William answers:

I’m sorry my friend but there is no easy way to get ride of it, my boyfriend went through the same thing and it’s worst because he is dark skin so the scares are way more visible.

Vitamin E is the best thing you can use but it wont clear it up in days, it slowly will as long as you use it everyday. He used it and it’s been about 5 months and he is almost scare free :-)

I also use it when I decide to take out a piercing and it has given me nothing but results!

Good luck and congrats on the clear up :-)

Richard asks…

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash?? Does it work?

Does this Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash actually work? Cuz, I’ve used at least 3 bottles and no difference. After, I wash my fash with it every day twice, I use Pond’s Cream. And, I realised that it has some mineral Oil in it. So, is that the reason the Neutrogena didn’t work yet? Cuz, i think my acne got worse! have any of you guys used it, and found a differnce?

Tom William answers:

It did not work for me but it did work for a lot of people that I know. One thing though, I don’t think you should be using Pond’s Cream, it might be too oily and just further clogging your pores and making the acne worse. Use an oil free moisturizer. You can get cheap ones. I use one by Clean and Clear and it works for me and is only about $5

Sandra asks…

Can any one recommend me a Oil-Free Dry skin cream?

Hi,i have been having dry skin for a very long time.I use Pond’s Dry Skin cream, but it seems to greasy and will clog my pores.Yes,i do have acne.I have pimples, and blackheads. My acne isn’t too serious but serious enough to care for it.(Moderate acne with many blackheads.)I have used Neutrogena Oil-free Dry skin cream but it doesn’t really work. Can any one recommend an Oil-Free dry skin cream? Thanks you for all answers!!!♥

Tom William answers:

Cetaphil daily face lotion is great leaves the skin soft hydrated without
the greasiness is great face lotion for dry skin .

Another good one is the Olay complete fluid face lotion with spf 15 it
has aloe vera extract is very soothing on the skin.

Ruth asks…

NEED ANSWERS NOW! PLEASE AND THANK YOU! :) ?

okay so i was wondering if the ponds dry skin cream is oil free?!

Tom William answers:

I think it is.

Sharon asks…

Experiences with POND’s Face Cream?

So I use an oil free cream during the summer and it does not work too great during the winter, I was thinking on switching to PONDS during the winter. Any experinces with this product you guys would like to share? Which one is good, because I see different colored tops.

Thank You!
Clinique is actually what I’m using now, I like it too, but it just does not do it for me in the winter.

Tom William answers:

I liked the cucumber moisturing one.(it has a green cap) i love it!!!!!!!!!
It gets rid of my chaped skin!!!

Carol asks…

PIMPLES and a whole lot more..?

here i am agen. i’ve tried so many facial washes, Master(pimple fighting and oil-free),Clean and Clear(pimple fighting and blackheads), Ponds(pimple fighthing and blackheads),Eskinol (pimple fighting) but nothing happens.. any suggestions? how will i know if that facial wash is VERY EFFECTIVE to my face.. please answer without any DERMATOLOGIST thingy.. tnx agen. and oh, is ICE can be helpful to your face like rubbing it to your face?

Tom William answers:

I never had any luck with store bought acne cleansers. I just used Cetaphil since I knew it would not irritate my skin any further. Some of the scrubs actually do more harm than good. Proactive also works. I have never been able to adhere to the regimen well but I know people who have had good results. The only other thing you could try would be a non-prescription retinol cream but they are not as strong as what you could get from the derm. Try going the gentile route and see if that helps since none of the OTC stuff does all that much good.

Sandy asks…

Help!Is this a good routine to help me get rid of my acne?

okay so every morning i wash my face with clearasil oil free daily face wash then put on a bit of ponds moisturizing cream or something like that, cause my skin tends to get dry sometimes, put on clindamycin phosphate topical solution and then a little bit of foundation and do the same at night (but without the makeup)and use saint ives apricot scrub once a week.my skin doesnt have any bad reactions or gets overdryed but i havnt really seen much of a difference and my sister also uses clindamycin and her acne really improved

Tom William answers:

Good skin starts within. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Drink plenty of water. Eat foods rich in antioxidants such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid too much fried foods or fried foods altogether. Always wear sunscreen depending on your skin color determine the spf of the sunscreen. Darker skin can go lower and lighter goes higher. Use sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. This does not protect you completely from the damge of the sun spending less time in the sun helps considerably. Take care of your skin. Cleanse, tone and moisturize. Exfoliate your skin but not too often it can irritate the skin and cause damage. Avoid smoking as well.

Break a sweat to let some of the toxins out and shower thereafter

know your skin type so that you can get the right products for your skin…cleanse, tone and moisturize…

Cleansing removes bacteria, germs, dirt and oil from the face.

Toning refreshes the skin, close the pores and removes product from the skin.

Moisturizing adds moisture to the face and protect the skin from sun damage, wind, pollutants and frigid temperatures

Ken asks…

Any good products/techniques for removing makeup?

Since it’s winter and it’s started raining/snowing more, I’ve been using a waterproof mascara that I LOVE. The only problem is, no matter how hard I try, it NEVER completely comes off. In the shower only some of it comes off, and it gets on my face and then won’t come off my skin. Then, I used Ponds Cold Cream, and it still doesn’t come off. Then, I use Equate Oil-Free Facial Lotion (which works miracles if you want softer skin, by the way) and that doesn’t take it off either. My eyelashes feel sticky before I go to sleep and the mascara doesn’t apply well the next morning. Any tips?

Tom William answers:

I have the same problem. My mascara never comes off no matter how hard I try! Now I use neutrogena oil-free makeup remover. I use a cotton ball and rub it all off and the. Rise my face after. It makes you face softer and takes off all the makeup!

Let's Talk Laser Treatment For Acne Scars

John asks…

Will my acne scars fade?

I dont have acne anymore, but I still have the scars. Ive had them for around four months. Will they fade over time? What can I do to speed up the process? I cant afford laser treatment.

Tom William answers:

It depends on what type of scars they are. Because you said fading it is probably this type–http://acne.about.com/od/acnesymptoms/a/pih.htm

They usually fade, but if not or to speed it up…

You can go on to etsy.com for homemade remedies (which are usually cheaper and safer). Or elsewhere that will be pretty cheap.
I’m vegan and I cannot use this so I have no personal experience, but I’ve heard it’s the best for scars- lactic acid. Products with glycolic acid, lactic acid or Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) are fantastic. If you want to get an acid product, these are the types you want to look for. What may be more effective is to use soaps, lotions, creams, peels, or masks that have LIGHTENING (also known as BRIGHTENING) effects.

Another even cheaper way (perhaps the cheapest possible) is to use Hydrogen Peroxide right on the spots, but make sure you do some research and be careful.

Just remember that whatever you get, it will take time so make sure to get stuff you can use long-term.

Daniel asks…

What is a good cream for getting rid of acne scars?

I have heaps of acne scars that I really want to get rid of.
People have suggested I undergo a laser treatment called microdermabrasion.
Before I do this I really want to see if there are any creams that can help first.
Has anyone heard of John Plunkett’s Super Fade cream? How is it?
Thanks :)
Maderma seems like a great product but I you can only buy it in the US.
Ilive in Australia :(
Microdermabrasion is really expensive though!
It’s $119 per treatment and I was told you need around 6-8 treatments!
That’s a lot of money!!!
Lucky Girl 9,
Thanks for your answer!
I work at Target in the Cosmetics area and am aware of the benefits of using Bio Oil as I get a lot of positive feedback from our customers.
I have this product at home but can’t use it on my face because it gives me pimples and makes my face oily :(
Thanks anyway!

Tom William answers:

Waste of money creams but if like me you face is more in common with the surface of the moon you need to haul out the big guns such has:–

* Laser resurfacing. This procedure can be done in the doctor’s or dermatologist’s office. The laser removes the damaged top layer of skin and tightens the middle layer, leaving skin smoother. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. The doctor will try to lessen any pain by first numbing the skin with local anesthesia. It usually takes between 3 and 10 days for the skin to heal completely.
* Dermabrasion. This treatment uses a rotating wire brush or spinning diamond instrument to wear down the surface of the skin. As the skin heals, a new, smoother layer replaces the abraded skin. It may take a bit longer for skin to heal using dermabrasion — usually between 10 days and 3 weeks.
* Fractional laser therapy. This type of treatment works at a deeper level than laser resurfacing or dermabrasion, Because fractional laser therapy doesn’t wound the top layer of tissue, healing time is shorter. Someone who has had this type of treatment may just look a bit sunburned for a couple of days.

Mandy asks…

How to get rid of redness from acne scars/irritation?

Hi. I’m a 16 year old guy. I’ve been fighting really bad acne for about two years now. I’ve used every kind of cleanser, facial wash, and cream on the planet to fight it. Nothing really worked. I even was on this prescription drug called Accutane for about 6 months, and this REALLY dried out my skin. I don’t get awful breakouts anymore (still consistently get whiteheads and small blemishes though) but my main problem now is the acne scars that were left behind. I have very pale skin to begin with, so these red marks, along with dozens of red marks I get after I shave or anything like that, it looks really really bad. On top of that, my skin is still dried out from the accutane (I’ve been off it for 9 months) and all the other products I’ve used (Benza-clin, Epiduo, etc). It’s not as bad at all as it used to be, but still a little dry. But for some reason, I think my skin is producing a lot of oil to fight the dryness and the mixture of the red marks, pale skin, and shiny, oily face looks terrible and I hate it. I’m getting laser treatments to get rid of some of the acne scars, but I really just want to have normal skin like everyone else. Does anyone know what I can do to just even out my skin and get rid of all these red marks and dry, oily skin? Please help.

Tom William answers:

I’ll share my experience with Accutane. Wow, I feel a comraderie with the rest of the victims here whose lives have been devastated by this drug. I am 42 yrs old, and like many others, took it in the mid-eighties when I was a junior in high school (16 yrs old). I had a hypochondriacal mother who took myself, my brother and sister to the dermatologist often because she wanted us to look perfect!(yes, I partially blame her, but I mostly blame the doctor and the evil pharm companies). None of us had anything worse than mild to moderate acne, mine being mild. I thought it was amazing at first, as it permanently rid me of acne. However, shortly after I started to have dizzy spells/panic attacks several times a day(in school, nonetheless), and I slipped into a depression for which no one could figure out why. I went to a semester of college, dropped out, and my father pretty much forced me to join the Army or get out of dodge(which was actually good for me). However, I have continued to have on and off bouts of depression and vision problems for the rest of my life. I feel a common bond with the rest of you with similar issues. Please feel free to shoot me an email any time, if it is just to vent. Side effects: dry skin, eyes, reduced vision, floaters, dizzy spells, panic attacks, MAJOR depression(post-usage). I purchase Accutane through reputable http://www.lipmanpharmacy.com/ they’ve been very reliable so far. Check this FDA link about Accutane http://google2.fda.gov/search?client=FDAgov&site=FDAgov-Recalls-Safety|FDAgov-Consumers|FDAgov-WarningLetters-ICECI|FDAgov-ImportAlerts-Industry|FDAgov-MedWatch-Safety|FDAgov-Section-Drugs&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=FDAgov&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_q=accutane&num=20&btnG=Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&restrictBox=FDAgov-Recalls-Safety&restrictBox=FDAgov-Consumers&restrictBox=Medwatch&restrictBox=FDAgov-WarningLetters-ICECI&restrictBox=FDAgov-ImportAlerts-Industry&restrictBox=FDAgov-Section-Drugs&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&sort=date
Hope i helped.

James asks…

Will these acne scars ever become less noticeable (pics included)?

i had really bad acne over the last year or so and now i have scarring. its really disgusting and i dont know how to make them fade quicker because i know they will never completely go. what do you suggest? should i try laser treatment or is there some sort of topical cream? thanks for all answers in advance.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq335/beachbabe971/15042010.jpg

Tom William answers:

Go to the pharmacy and see all the creams that help get rid of scaring.
Honestly they will never go entirely. But allot of it will go with ageing.

Laura asks…

how do i reduce the scars(not marks) caused by pimples/acne?

i have been having pimple/acne for almost 12 years and now it somehow has stopped. but this has left a lot of scars on my face(pits and dark spots). is there any way to reduce this?(other than going for a laser treatment)

Tom William answers:

My daughter and myself had the same problem. I bought hydrocortisone (?sp) 1% creme in the drug store. We wash our face and place a steaming hot rag over our face for about a min, then we pat dry and use the cream. Once applied, we then use a moisterizer on top of that. Do this in the morning and before you go to bed. You will start to see results in 5 day, they will start too disappear.

Sharon asks…

If possible, How do i get rid of acne scars?

I had some really huge pimples that are now thankfully gone, but they left some scars in their place. the scars take up quite a bit of my forehead and I want to know if I can get rid of them and how. The scars are a couple shades LIGHTER than my normal skin tone since I got a tan. they haven’t been there for long only a month at the most, but it’s getting really annoying and i dont want to have to wear makeup and i cant afford laser treatment. how can i get rid of the scars or at least reduce their size?

Tom William answers:

Lemon juice or the new prefer on at drug stores for scars and strech marks.

Helen asks…

10 POINTS——Acne Scar Treatments please?

I’m looking for something not like surgery or laser treatment

I’m looking for home remade like that

Tom William answers:

Serious! My son had a tumor removed from his wrist – a 2 inch scar was left and thankfully it has not come back! The surgeon recommended Scar zone by sudden change- my oldest son used a little from day to day also for a few pimple scars and they faded away to where you have look very close to even see them now! The doc even said it works great on reducing stretch marks etc….. Very cheap compared to what other cremes cost! Hope this helps!

George asks…

How do i remove red spots from my face? (From scars?) They’re not acne. They have been there for months ?

already and i’m getting worried. ): i’m only 14 so i can’t possibly go for laser treatment or stuff like that.

Tom William answers:

You are only 14.. You must consult with doctor..

Let's Talk How To Avoid Acne

Lisa asks…

How to avoid acne breakouts in new places?

How do I avoid my breakouts from spreading? I used to only get acne on my forehead (which was better because my bangs covered them) but now I when I get breakouts it’s mostly on my cheeks which is worse. So how do I stop it from spreading?

Tom William answers:

I did some research and talked to my doctor to find the most common causes of acne.

• Hormones: The number one cause of acne is the production of sex hormones, known as androgen, that begins at puberty. This is why majority of acne sufferers are adolescents and teens. Hormones are responsible for then acne flare-ups during menstruation and pregnancy.

• When the sebaceous gland is stimulated by androgens, it produces extra sebum. In its journey up the follicle toward the surface, the sebum mixes with common skin bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the follicle. While this process is normal, the presence of extra sebum in the follicle increases the chances of clogging — and acne.

• Stress: can also cause the production of hormones, such as cortisol, which can aggravate acne. Stress brings upon different hormone levels. With hormone changes the body prompts the skins oil glands to enlarge, secreting more oil. Which causes white heads, black heads and pimples.

• Oily or heavy make up: Heavy make-up clogs the pores and oily make-ups add more oil, which only adds to the problem if oily skin already exists. Cosmetics, especially certain moisturizers, foundations and pomades contain lanolin, petrolatum, vegetable oils, butyl stearate, lauryl alcohol and oleic acid.

• Certain medications and steroids: Vitamins are good for your body, But an excess of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 can cause acne flare-ups. These vitamins are good for the skin, but avoid overuse.

• Diets: For some people, a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can actually aggravate their acne.

• Over abrasive cleansing: Harsh exfoliators can damage skin and spread infections.

• Picking and squeezing: This can actually send the infection deeper into the skin and can cause scarring.

• Environmental irritants: such as high humidity and pollution. High humidity actually causes swelling of skin. Pollution is of course is a big cause for clogging your pores.

• Genes: Family members who are also acne sufferers. Acne is inherited and severe cases known as cystic acne usually come from heredity.

And..,

You need a more thorough treatment. I suggest you start with these steps:

1. Avoid oil-based products such as facial lotions, wash and cosmetics. Look for products that are “non-comedogenic,” it means it will not clog your pores.

2. Do not wear tight headband, baseball hat, and/or helmet when you exercise or play sports, and make sure you wash the sweat-soaked things each time you wear them.

3. Keep the skin hydrated and moist so your cells can function properly. Moisturize your face with mild, non-comedogenic moisturizers to keep it hydrated. Moisturizing is a necessity. Again, the product with the least amount of chemical additives is the best. Always use a light moisturizer on your face after cleansing.

4. Cleanse your pores with an alcohol-free toner or skin conditioner on cotton balls. Do not try to scrub harshly or you will strip and damage your skin. Even after rinsing your face, if you do not remove the remainder of cleanser and loosened debris residues, you are only going to imbed that debris deeper into the pores as you layer serums and moisturizers on top. The absolute best way to perform this deep pore cleansing is with an alcohol-free toner or skin conditioner on cotton balls. There’s no need to harm your skin by vigorous scrubbing or harsh acids, simply wipe with toner damp cotton balls until the last cotton comes away perfectly white.

5. Astringents, Salicylic Acid, retinoic acids, and glycolic acids all work to prevent pores from clogging. Be aware of some active ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, these ingredients can cause major side effects.

For better results, I suggest you also fight your acne from inside, because hormonal problems could also be the worst cause of acne. And for this kind of treatment, please choose safe ingredients… Herbals are the best.

Good luck!

Chris asks…

How to avoid acne in my face?

I have acne in my face, and it’s really hard to avoid them. I have a bang/fringe type of hairstyle, because i want to cover acne in my forehead, but my mother says it makes it worst because my hair is greesy. But its really hard because then people would see all that acne. Can anyone tell me how to prevent it? I’m 13 and a boy.

Tom William answers:

I also had acne at yr age and older, as a teen yr hormones are everywhere, acne is very common in teens and some adults too. But the good news it that it does settle down as you get older. Keep yr skin clean, dont pick or squeeze the zits! Its hard not to do this but it causes scarring, bleeding, inflammation and makes them look worse! Wash yr skin twice a day with a face wash for acne prone skin, and there are also creams you can use to help dry the acne out. Ask yr pharmacist, there are lots of things you can use and by over the counter. If the acne is very severe there are medications you can take but you need to go to the Dr and you need yr parents permission as they cost money. Try to eat a healthy diet, not too much sugar or junk food, if yr hair is greasy then you should wash it regularly with a shampoo for oily hair, yr mother does have a point about yr hair.

Hope this helps somehow.

Lizzie asks…

How to avoid acne, what should i eat?

What things should i and shouldnt i eat to avoid breaking out/acne?

Tom William answers:

As the mother of a daughter that I took to a dermatologist at age 11, who went through 2 Accutane treatments, many years of medicine, and finally birth control pills, I claim some knowledge.
She had cysts, very painful and disfiguring.

Most authorities say that food makes no difference.
This is from Mayo Clinic, one of the best in the world:

Causes
By Mayo Clinic staff
How acne develops
Three factors contribute to the formation of acne:

Overproduction of oil (sebum)
Irregular shedding of dead skin cells resulting in irritation of the hair follicles of your skin
Buildup of bacteria

There is much more info here about treatment, etc. I would also trust the website thoroughly.

Sandy asks…

how do you avoid facial acne without use of creams?

i don’t enjoy using creams to avoid acne and washing my face doesn’t help a lot so what can i do?

Tom William answers:

Theres really no way you can avoid acne. You’ll get an occasional zit every now and then. Try not stressing so much and keep your face clean. Wash it with clearasil facial scrub it’s really cheap like 5$ if you cant get that for some reason just wash your face 3 times a day morning, middle of the day, and before you go to sleep with soap. Make sure you wash good. That helps to keep your face clean and healthy and not oily. Drink water too =]

Richard asks…

How to avoid acne during menstruation cycle?

Normally I have pretty good skin, no breakouts, no bumps or issues, I have a little bit of an oily skin problem but it doesn’t bother me too much as I live in a very dry climate-area.
However, a few days before and during my period every month I get pretty bad acne breakouts.
Is there anything I can do to lesson the breakouts?

Tom William answers:

Acne during menstruation can be affected by hormonal imbalances. Acne at this time is mainly influenced by androgens which are hormones that stimulate the sebaceous glands and hair follicles in the skin. One of the major players that can affect the levels of androgens is stress. Thus high stress levels can promote further acne flare ups. This is a vicious circle, because the appearance of acne may increase a woman’s stress levels. To avoid this take measures to control your stress levels. Perhaps you could take up yoga, meditate, have a relaxing bath anything that will work for you.

Any major player in causing acne can be diet. Studies have shown that acne occurs more frequently during the week before menstruation and these conditions remain present for about a week. Eating healthier around this time should help but it is best to have a balanced diet overall and not just at this time. If you eat healthily it will be obvious by your skin. Ensure you provide your body with the nutrients it needs like vitamins, minerals and supplements.

Consuming foods that you are allergic to can contribute to acne before menstrual period. Many women do not know about all of their allergies and can thus inadvertently eat foods that lead to acne, such as shellfish, nuts, soy products, and wheat or gluten. If you eat such foods and find yourself with acne before menstrual period, you need to carefully examine your diet to determine if it is the source of your skin problems.

Never underestimate the power of water, keeping your skin hydrated can yield great results.

Another factor that can have great results on acne is improving your skin care regime. Cleaning your face too much or scrubbing too hard can result in skin irritation or stimulate overproduction of oil and pores to clog. Products that contain alcohol should be avoided, stick to those with gentle exfoliation and those that contain natural treatments such as tea tree oil. There are many over the counter products, it’s a matter of finding what works best for you.

Cosmetic products can also play havoc with your skin. The best cosmetics to buy are those that are non-comedogenic, in other words oil free. These will prevent pores becoming clogged. Cosmetics and perfumes labeled hypo-allergenic will ensure you don’t get skin irritations or allergic reactions.

Try benzoyl peroxide, it works a treat

So if you experience acne during menstruation, don’t panic, instead use your efforts take measures on preventing it.

Hope i helped

Thomas asks…

How to avoid acne problem?

Small zits keeps on coming my face since 2004.Tell me how to get rid of it.

Tom William answers:

Hi Omnipotent.

TREATMENT OF ACNE (Self-Care at Home)

1• Wash once or twice daily with soap and water to remove excess oil from the skin. An acne cleanser purchased over-the-counter in any drug store can also be helpful. Avoid scrubbing too abrasively because this can actually irritate the skin and cause acne to worsen.

2• Over-the-counter acne medications can be used either at bedtime or during the day. Always follow the directions on any acne product.

3• Many cover-up products are available without a prescription to improve the appearance of blemishes while they have a chance to heal. Most work well and should not worsen acne.

4• Some cosmetics and other skin care products, however, can cause acne to worsen. Look for make-up, cosmetics, and skin care products labeled with the word noncomedogenic. This means that it does not cause or worsen acne.

TREATMENT OF ACNE (Medical Treatment)

Many treatment options are available to treat all forms of acne. Medications are the main treatment for acne and usually work well. Several preparations are available over-the-counter, while others require a prescription from a doctor.

1• Over-the-counter medications: Nonprescription or over-the-counter medications for acne are plentiful and can be effective for milder forms of acne. They come in the form of soaps, washes, and cleansers.

…1.a. Many contain benzoyl peroxide, which does two things. First, benzoyl peroxide kills the acne-causing bacteria, which are thought to play a role in acne. Second, benzoyl peroxide can cause drying and flaking off of skin, which can help prevent the pores from becoming plugged. Plugged pores can develop into acne blemishes.

…1.b. Scrubbing excessively with any over-the-counter preparation can actually cause acne to worsen by additionally irritating the hair follicles.

2• Prescription medications: Doctors can prescribe medications when acne becomes moderate to severe or is not controlled by over-the-counter medications. Prescription drugs can be used effectively alone or in combination with other prescription and nonprescription medications.

…2.a. Antibiotics: Antibiotics can be effective in treating most inflammatory acne (papules and pustules). They work by killing the bacteria and also by decreasing the redness and swelling seen in the inflammatory forms of acne.

……2.a.i. Antibiotics may be applied to the skin in the form of gels and lotions, or by way of pills. We now know that using a combination of 2 medications together may be very effective in treating acne. Using a topical antibiotic with topical benzoyl peroxide, for example, may prevent bacterial resistance to the antibiotic. Giving an antibiotic by mouth is often needed for acne that is more extensive, red, and tender.

……2.a.ii. Antibiotics taken by mouth can be associated with more side effects than if applied to the skin and may interact with other medicines such as birth control pills. Sensitivity to the sun can result in a “bad sunburn” in some people who take the antibiotic tetracycline by mouth.

…2.b. Retinoids: Medicines made from vitamin A (retinoids) are useful in treating several types of acne lesions. Topical retinoids are effective in treating the noninflammatory types of acne (blackheads and whiteheads).

……2.b.i. Topical retinoids (applied directly to the skin) help to open clogged pores by creating a mild peeling effect. Drying of the skin can be a frequent side effect. Oral retinoids are reserved for treating the more extensive nodular type of acne or severe inflammatory acne, which has not responded to other treatments. Oral retinoids not only have a peeling effect but also decrease the production of oil.

……2.b.ii. They can also be associated with a number of serious side effects including birth defects in babies of women who become pregnant while taking the medicine. They can also cause elevated blood fats (triglycerides) and damage to the liver. Your doctor may recommend certain blood tests to check for these problems (and to make sure you are not pregnant) if you are given oral retinoids. Depression and suicidal thoughts have been reported while taking oral retinoids.

……2.b.iii. A combination preparation, known as Epiduo gel, containing both the retinoid adapalene and benzoyl peroxide, was approved by the U.S. FDA in December 2008. The once-daily prescription treatment was approved for use in patients 12 years of age and older.

…2.c. Other medications: A doctor may recommend other types of drugs or therapy to improve acne. For women, medications such as birth control pills or certain “water pills” may be helpful. These drugs counteract the acne-causing effect of male hormones. Newer treatments for acne include the use of light or zinc. Your doctor can advise you whether these types of acne therapy might be good for you.

Take Care. Regards.

Let's Talk Blood Sugar Level Chart

William asks…

mechanisms involved in the ‘control of blood sugar level’ flow chart?

Can anyoneone tell me how to make a flow diagram that shows mechanisms involved in the body controlling the blood sugar level?

F.Y.I. how do i put conditions and situations?

Tom William answers:

There is how.

You have the middle value – without deviation, and on either side you put the deviations and what they trigger ect.

Hope that helps.

Laura asks…

Can anybody tell me where I can find a website where I can record my blood sugar levels on a printable chart?

Tom William answers:

I don’t know what kind of meter you use but One Touch’,ultra, ultra smart has a disk for your computer that has all kinds of charts and printable information once you input your sugar levels even a cable that downloads right from the meter. You can try www.lifescan.com

Helen asks…

My blood sugar level showed 5.2 before breakfast. What does that mean?

Does anybody have link to a chart the different levels.

Thank you in advance.

Tom William answers:

That’s an absolutely perfect, non-diabetic, blood glucose reading.

I didn’t find an actual “chart” as that would be just a single line long. You can, however, check on the following website. (I’ve chosen a UK website as the level you’ve indicated is a measurement made in mmol/l (millimoles pr litre), the International Standard, which differs from the results given in the USA … Plus a few other countries.)

Steven asks…

blood sugar level question (kinda long)?

hi, today my dad had a dr. appt to get meds for his diabetes. When they checked him in they said that his blood sugar level was off the chart like 600 and that he needed to get to the ER. He is there now, they gave him an insulin shot, have him on an IV because he is dehydrated.. Lately he’s been very thirsy, and peeing alot, also he just had cataract surgery (don’t know if it applies to anything) Anyway ahwile after the insulin shot they checked his blood sugar level and it is now 810.. My question is what can they do to help him? is he going to be ok? They are admitting him overnight and keeping close watch on him.
Any info. please. Thank you

Tom William answers:

First on foremost, IV fluids and alot of it like 3-4 liters.

Next More IV Fluids.

Then more IV Fluids.

Your dad is really dehydrated and giving suncutaneous insulin will not work. Insulin will need to be given intravenously.

Next start an insulin drip. Do hourly blood sugar test and titrate upwards if it is still high.

Rule any underlying issues like heart attack, infection that may be increasing his sugars. Check blood work and make sure pottasium, magnesium, phospate are okay. Would do it every4-6 hours.

Needs to be in ICU.

Michael asks…

blood sugar level/glucose?

well a doctor said i should buy a diabeties meter as she thinks im fasting glucose or something like that, not sure if it makes sense as i couldnt understand her much.Whats the best times of testing myself? like before meals or after ?? does anyone have some advice and maybe even some sort of chart i could print out and write my results in as iv googled this but there all so confuseing!

Tom William answers:

Normal Fasting Blood Sugar
A normal fasting blood sugar (which is also the blood sugar a normal person will see right before a meal) is:

83 mg/dl (4.6 mmol/L) or less.

Many normal people have fasting blood sugars in the mid and high 70 mg/dl (3.9 mmol/L) range.

Though most doctors will tell you any fasting blood sugar under 100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/L) is “normal”, there are several studies that suggest that testing with a fasting blood sugar in the mid 90 mg/dl (5 mmol/L) range often predicts diabetes that is diagnosed a decade later.
Post-Meal Blood Sugar (Postprandial)
Independent of what they eat, the blood sugar of a truly normal person is:

Under 120 mg/dl (6.6 mmol/L) one or two hours after a meal.

Most normal people are under 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L) two hours after eating.

Richard asks…

Concerning high blood sugar?

Ok I have really wild blood sugar readings. Today it was off the chart at 600. Same for yesterday. Granted I binged on yogurt both days. (ate 16 cups total) Normally my sugar levels are in the mid 300′s.

Now everyone tells me that having high sugar levels is bad. But I dont feel sick at all. So why should I be concerned. Doesnt seem to affect me any.

Tom William answers:

If your blood sugars are normally in the 300′s, then you undoubtedly have diabetes. Diabetes does not make you feel bad, but it is very damaging to your body, especially your heart and kidneys. You should see a doctor about this as soon as you can. Until then, try limiting the amount of sugar and carbohydrates/breads you eat.

Diabetes is a very manageable disease. Unmanaged, it will drastically reduce your life span and quality of life.

David asks…

Should I be concerened w/ these blood sugar levels?

My 9 year old child was sick w/ a virus about 2 weeks ago, she was better in about 2 days. Since than she has been drinking more (not excessive but an increase) her main symptoms are increased hunger to where she feels shakey and her belly hurts. I’ve noticed she has been getting up at night to use the bathroom and she’s been so tired lately.Last night she ate dinner at 6:00pm (hot dog, potatos, corn and juice) she had a snack at 8:30 about 5 Ritz crackers and water.I have a meter for myself so I thought I’d check her when she was sleeping. At 11:00pm (almost 5 hrs after dinner and 2.5 hrs after snack) she was 155, I rewashed her toes and retested and it was 160. I waited about 15 min and checked again and it was 144 (she slept throught it all, I don’t want to scare her if it’s nothing). I know about the 20 percent thing w/ the meters and I did make sure to clean her toes were cleaned well.I’m not type 1 but I do have relatives who are, should I be worried? also she has been having weight issues. Hasn’t gained any and is falling down the charts, I’m concerned but don’t know if I should address this the her ped yet b/c she’s under 200.

High Amylase Levels, High Blood Pressure, High Fever, High Salt, Revived 3 times?

My brothers child died early this morning and was revived 3 times. She is alive now, breathing, awake, but still not moving. But they think its shock. She has a fever of 107, she has a blood sugar of 342, she has EXTREMELY high levels of amylase, Off the chart salt levels, and early this morning was revived 3 times… Do you have any idea what it could be? We are all EXTREMLY Scared… And the baby is 11 months old.

Tom William answers:

Most likely it is a vaccination reaction. Dehydration will cause blood pressure to rise and excess salt in the blood. It almost sounds like a diabetic coma from too much sugar in the blood. Find out if she has been vaccinated recently.

Good luck to you

Sandra asks…

Can’t keep 3 hour glucose test drink down. What to do?

I barely failed the 1 hour glucose test at 20 weeks and took the 3 hour glucose tolerance test and passed it. It was a really bad experience for me, as I was so sick to my stomach the whole time and nearly threw up several times. My doctor wants me to take it again now at 28 weeks (I had a small amount of glucose in my urine after I drank juice before my appointment). I have tried twice and ended up throwing up the drink before the first hour ended. I have been testing and charting my blood sugar levels and they are fine, but my doctor insists I must do the test. How many times should I try when the drink obviously does not agree with me? Is there some reason I must have an official diagnosis of gestational diabetes, or is strict home-monitoring enough to make sure my baby and I are healthy? I have asked my doctor this, but of course she says the test is the only choice.

Tom William answers:

Are you drinking the same flavor or different ones? Because there are different flavors. I had to do a 3 hour test after I failed the 1 hour. I had different drinks both times. Did you drink it cold? That could help.

I assume you have told her that you keep throwing the stuff up–what is her response to that? Have you really sat down and talked to her about it? Because if you have, she seems to be a bit insensitive to your plight.

Gestational diabetes is a very serious illnes. You have to be on a very strict diet if you do indeed have it, becuase it can affect the baby. That’s why they are so adamant about it. The website below lists all kinds of things that can affect the baby.

I was trying to find anythign on the internet that could be an alternative to the oral glucose tolerance test. I came up with this:

Glycosylated haemoglobin test

Check out this website: http://www.doctorndtv.com/topics/detailtopics.asp?id=72

I don’t know if it is something you can do, but you can ask your doctor about it. You don’t have to drink anything. It’s worth a shot.

Good luck to you!

Let's Talk New Acne Treatments Products

Ruth asks…

1st pregnancy, I have a couple of questions?

I am about 5 weeks pregnant and I already have symptoms. Are these all in my head or just a coincidence? My boobs hurt and I was a B cup 2 weeks ago and now I’m a C (I had to buy new bras today!), I am a little nauseous, I feel bloated like if I were around my period, and I burp like all day long (little burps not gross big ones). Is all this possible?

Also, does anyone know of any acne facial treatment or products that are safe to use when you’re pregnant?

Thanks so much for humoring me!

Tom William answers:

These are good questions for your first baby! No it’s not in your head. This is about when most women start to see pregnancy symptoms cropping up. I noticed my breasts were very sore and heavy about a week before I missed my period. Then the rest just came on slowly for the next few weeks. For a complete guide I will suggest that you go to the library or to the book store and get “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” It’s a great book for mommies to be even if you’re an old pro like me! LOL.
For the Acne you are supposed to stay away from Salicylic Acid, as they haven’t done significant testing on pregnant mothers. (like we want them to!) I really Like St. Ives Make-up remover and Facial Cleanser. It is WONDERFUL! Feels like lotion and leaves my skin not too dried out but feeling clean.
Good Luck and Congrats!

Maria asks…

What do you think about my skincare routine?

-Mary Kay Velocity Facial Cleanser (day and night)
-St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Blemishes & Blackheads (1-3 times a week)
-Hard Candy Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer w/SPF 15 (during the day)
-Mary Kay Velocity Lightweight Moisturizer (at night)

I had acne but not anymore cuz of the Mary Kay products. I only have light acne scars and always a few minor blemishes. Suggestions for some new products? I definitely won’t be changing my Mary Kay products. Another exfoliater? Some weekly treatment? Anything for the acne scars?
Thanks :)

Tom William answers:

Sounds like your doing just about everything right! The only things i would add are the use of a toner after cleansing your face (this just brings your skin’s pH back to what it should be after washing all the oils off) which is actually a very important step that most people skip. Also you might want to try a facial mask once a week or once every couple weeks, its not necessary, but its and extra step that helps to make sure your pores are completely cleared out. I used to use St Ives apricot scrub too, but i began to notice how harsh it was on my skin, and id heard stories about how it had actually made micro tears in some peoples skin. Now im not sur those stories are true, and ive hears that St ives has since changed their formula, however i dont use their products anymore, just to be safe. You might want to try a Biore brand scrub, which i use now, it works just as well, but is gentler on your skin. Acne scars usually heal on their own with time, so just keep taking good care of your skin and they should disappear soon. Hope this helps!

Betty asks…

Proactive Solution vs. Avon Clearskin Professional?

I’m in a little bit of a quandary :( I’ve been a faithful user of Proactive for about two years, and I’ve heard good things and bad things about it.. but overall I’ve had a very good experience with it. I get very small breakouts around my menstrual cycle, but my skin is nothing like it was before. It still gets pretty oily, but that’s nothing that some oil control mattifier and a dab of moisturizing lotion with salicylic acid can’t solve.

Anyway, the problem is that I’m about to run out of Proactive, but I don’t feel like spending $72 on another kit, so I’ve been debating about switching to Avon’s Clearskin Professional system. I hear good things and bad things about it like I do with every product. I’ve seen it compared to Proactive, so opinions about Clearskin would be appreciated.

I think the #1 complaint I’ve heard about Proactive is that once you quit using it, your skin breaks out like crazy. The #1 complaint I’ve heard about Clearskin Professional is that it stings/burns and can seriously dry out your skin and make it peel.

So I guess I have two questions:

1- If I gradually shift from Proactive to Clearskin (or any other acne treatment system suggested) over the course of a few days/weeks to let my skin get used to the new product, would the post-Proactive breakout still be horrific?

2- What are some excellent multi-step acne treatment systems for oily and acne-prone skin that won’t break the bank? I’m talking about $50 and under. I haven’t heard many good things about Neutrogena’s SkinID thing, but I’m open to persuasion.

Tom William answers:

Proactive

Paul asks…

how many products can we use on our face at once?

not make up wise.
like cleanser and moisturizer wise.

so how many products can we use on our face at once?

i cleanse every night with the neutrogena wave.
and then apply aveeno clear complexion daily moisturizer for acne and blemish treatment.
then in the morning i only wash my face and apply a regular neutogena oily free moisture with spf 15.

once a week i exfoliate my face with the loreal 360 clean.
and twice a week i try to use this clean and clear “intense mask” for deep cleanse and oil control.

and i use pore strips for black heads around the nose area once a week too.

so is this too much?
ive use to not care about my skin. ive never broke out before. im a junior in high school and at the end of this summer i ended up breaking up like crazy. and its getting nasty. i wanted to start a good new routine before it gets wroste. i want to take better care of my skin. but i want to know am i doing it right? or am i overdoing it? thanks. any recommendation helps and tips would be nice also.
oh and despite my profile im a girl.

Tom William answers:

It could be too much for you. Or it could be hormones, hard to say. Regardless, I’m not a huge fan of a lot of the products you are using. Both the neutrogena wave and the loreal 360 plastic scrubber can harbor bacteria. Though I’d like to give your products a complete overhaul, I’m going to assume that since you are in high school, you might not have the money to go out and blow on all new products so I’ll try and work with what you have.

First, ditch the wave. The only product I’ll recommend that you buy is Purpose Liquid Facial wash made by Johnson & Johnson. It’s really gentle and won’t make you oily skin worse by irritating it or stripping it of too much oil. You can get it for about $5 at Walmart. Use this morning and night.
Keep the night use of aveeno and day time neutrogena with spf.
Ditch the 360 clean scrubber. If you want to use up the rest of the cleanser, that’s okay but use clean fingertips instead. Use it no more than twice a week.
The clean and clear mask is ok but cut down to only once a week or once every other week. It sounds like you might be stripping your skin of too much oil, causing it to over produce.
The pore strips are fine but keep using it only once a week, maybe once every two weeks and not on the same night you use the mask.
Hopefully this will help you but don’t expect immediate results. It could also get worse for a few weeks before it gets better as your skin adjusts but in the long run, you skin should start to clear up.

so companies are fake????

then why wont i steal from them if they’re the liars???

God, could u help me?

thanks

Tom William answers:

Forget skin creams or lotions. You want food supplements that promote good skin.

Try consuming antioxidants and Udo’s Choice Oil Blend. Those products are available at most health food shops.

My niece and nephew were once ridden with acnes covering them from heads to waists. Once they tried the recommended food supplements, they were soon cleared of all skin problems. Now their overall skin is flawless, clear and glowing.

Ensure that your antioxidants are diversified with roughly 30 nutrients within any capsule. They contain multivitamins and multiminerals. Ensure the antioxidants include zinc, which greatly combats acnes.

My daughter has severe acne and was using ProActive until I discovered it contains bleach (which is absorbed through the skin in 26 secs and enters the bloodstream).

We started using Arbonne’s Clear Advantage (all natural ingredients) and she has had the best looking skin of her life. Dramatic changes within 2 weeks. We noticed a difference within 3 days though. It comes with supplement too, so it’s working outside and internally.
Arbonne products come with a 45 day money back guarantee too.

I know you said you’re not interested in any other products – but I know that neither one that you named work as well as this. It’s just incredible how well every Arbonne product we’ve used works. I was blown away. We’re using skincare, body washes, body butters, the men’s line for my husband and the haircare too. My son had eczema on his scalp and the shampoo cleared it up within 2 weeks – no medications. It’s awesome.

Sandy asks…

Can anybody help me make my hair look pretty and curl right?

I have airpit length blonde hair. It’s sometimes curly, sometimes wavy and sometimes just an ugly frizzy straight mess. Most days when I take a shower and let it air dry down it curls but has TONS of frizz and the top and back is straight. What can I do to make the wavy curls well not frizzy but pretty, kinda like Taylor swifrt curls with out hiring a team of stylists. Does anybody recament any products like hair spray and moose. I’m totally new at this buety thing so explain yourselves please. I really do need help I’m going into 10 grade and I want to look good, any other beauty advice would be much appriciated, also would be acne treatments that are good as I am randomly breaking out. Please i need your help!!!!! I’m turning 15 and I havnt Even had my first kiss, I’m a totally loser and I want to be pretty. Please help!!!

Tom William answers:

I think you need to use product first. Use a good conditioner and shampoo in the shower and then treat it with product when it’s dry. If you want it curly, then you should have hair curlers when it’s damp, especially if your hair dries frizzy. If you want it to look like Taylor Swift curls, then buy a hair curler and heat it up and use hairspray to help it stick. Product always help. Also, don’t worry about the first kiss thing. I had mine when I was fourteen because I felt the way you did, but it was rushed and I regret it. The guy I kissed wasn’t great. Relax and take your time with relationships :) waiting is good (trust me. Fifteen is an early age.) Also about acne treatments, here are good foods you can eat that are healthy for the skin and filled with vitamins and antioxidants:
Oranges, pomegranates, almonds, green tea, anything with olive oil, soy beans, ginger. Garlic, cranberry juices, oats, tomatoes, milk, broccoli, salad, etc. Are all very good for your skin and are filled with antioxidants and vitamins.

Skincare is also very important and it’s not just food. Make sure to cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin every day. You can use store products or homemade remedies. Also use sunscreen. If it continues, then I suggest seeing a dermatologist. Good luck :)

Let's Talk Acne Treatment Overnight

Donald asks…

do i leave acne treatment overnight?

or should i apply it and clean it off then go 2 sleep.

Tom William answers:

Yes, I do and it works for me all the time. I clean my face first and make sure I tap it with a towel when i’m drying it. If you don’t want to use cream there is wipes that work. Good Luck

Nancy asks…

overnight acne treatment! plz help!?

this morning i woke up with the biggest zits ever on my forehead! and im going 2 my aunts wedding tomorrow and im a bridesmaid! i need an overnight treatment! without going 2 the store 2 buy something cause im completely broke!

Tom William answers:

10 percent benzoyl peroxide, a generic brand of clearasil at rite-aid or walgreens would be good. May not make it completely disappear overnight though. Toothpaste helps but not that effective. Be careful when using benzoyl peroxide because it has the ability to bleach colored clothes. Wash ur hands thorougly after aplying it and ull have no problems.

Laura asks…

OVERNIGHT ACNE TREATMENT!!!!?

HELP! I got a breakout overnight, and school starts TOMORROW!!!! I NEED AN OVERNIGHT TREATMENT THAT WILL CLEAR IT ALL UP!!!!!! Please tell me what I should do/use!!!!
Thanks!

Tom William answers:

No over night trick will work, Do you think your going to be the only one at school with a zit? No your not!

William asks…

Overnight acne treatment?

I usually have an okay time treating my acne, BUT overnight it seems I end up getting a redder pimple or a new one. How do I treat that?

Tom William answers:

You should try toothpaste on a pimple but i suggest honey… At night, wash your face, and then exfoliate, if you have a bad pimple, try using honey right after your done with that, then place a bandaid over it and sleep with it over night….
If you take a shower at night and sleep with wet hair this may also cause acne at night so try bathing a little earlier or in the morning..wash your face 2-3 times a day and take care of it in the day time…
Hope this helped!

Mary asks…

♥Does on-the-spot acne treatment work overnight??? (opinions)?

Does it really work for you?

Tom William answers:

I’ve had problems with my skin in the past, and i’ve never been able to find an overnight cure (unfortunately – if u find one let me know!)

I just find using a bit of vitamin e on my skin under my usual moisturiser and a good concealer is the best option. Don’t squeeze and just drink heaps of water. – Toothpaste can also be pretty good – it dries up my pimples pretty quickly.

Good luck though. Hope you find a solution!

Lisa asks…

Good overnight spot/acne treatment?

I have really really awful acne everywhere and I’ve tried everything! Also my skin is quite sensitive, Prices would help thankyou thankyou thankyou!!

Tom William answers:

Toothpaste works well, it may sting a little, but it neutralizes the acid in your spots and they should become less inflamed and red
hope i helped
=D x

Donna asks…

does clean and clear acne spot treatment work overnight?

and how well does it work?
(hopefully it does, i bought this stuff today…)

Tom William answers:

Yesa it works overnight
but it will take some time for u to get rid of acne spots

Susan asks…

Toothpaste acne treatment? PLEASE help!?

So it is kindof burning. Do I take it off? Do I wear it overnight. A bunch of sites say not to..and some say do! Did it work for you? Do you know anyone it helped?
Also, can you give me any other overnight treatments for acne?
THANKS in advance!

Tom William answers:

Why would anyone put toothpaste on there face..

Just get a deep face cleanser, and change to using silk pillows covers. Golden rule during the day don’t touch your face.

Let's Talk Acne Treatment Overnight

Chris asks…

do i leave acne treatment overnight?

or should i apply it and clean it off then go 2 sleep.

Tom William answers:

Yes, I do and it works for me all the time. I clean my face first and make sure I tap it with a towel when i’m drying it. If you don’t want to use cream there is wipes that work. Good Luck

Paul asks…

overnight acne treatment! plz help!?

this morning i woke up with the biggest zits ever on my forehead! and im going 2 my aunts wedding tomorrow and im a bridesmaid! i need an overnight treatment! without going 2 the store 2 buy something cause im completely broke!

Robert asks…

Nancy asks…

Richard asks…

♥Does on-the-spot acne treatment work overnight??? (opinions)?

Does it really work for you?

Tom William answers:

I’ve had problems with my skin in the past, and i’ve never been able to find an overnight cure (unfortunately – if u find one let me know!)

I just find using a bit of vitamin e on my skin under my usual moisturiser and a good concealer is the best option. Don’t squeeze and just drink heaps of water. – Toothpaste can also be pretty good – it dries up my pimples pretty quickly.

Good luck though. Hope you find a solution!

Thomas asks…

Good overnight spot/acne treatment?

I have really really awful acne everywhere and I’ve tried everything! Also my skin is quite sensitive, Prices would help thankyou thankyou thankyou!!

Tom William answers:

Toothpaste works well, it may sting a little, but it neutralizes the acid in your spots and they should become less inflamed and red
hope i helped
=D x

Carol asks…

Charles asks…

Toothpaste acne treatment? PLEASE help!?

So it is kindof burning. Do I take it off? Do I wear it overnight. A bunch of sites say not to..and some say do! Did it work for you? Do you know anyone it helped?
Also, can you give me any other overnight treatments for acne?
THANKS in advance!

Tom William answers:

Why would anyone put toothpaste on there face..

Just get a deep face cleanser, and change to using silk pillows covers. Golden rule during the day don’t touch your face.
